A Thousand Per Day: A Milestone

In reviewing our numbers, we realized that we crossed a little milestone on October 12: we have over 1,000 readers subscribed to our RSS feed (either via e-mail or something like Google Reader). That's not a count of the number of people reading us every day because some subscribers won't actually read every article and there are lots of folks who visit the site directly via the web instead of subscribing, but it's a handy milestone. Another handy metric is "Absolute…

QFC Cleverness

Dan S. noticed that the sign inside the being-remodeled QFC has a nod to the neighborhood. It's not just your usual "excuse our dust" under construction sign: they've managed to mimic the style of the grand ol Food Giant lettering that's temporarily displaced from their facade:

Notes from the Playground – People you Meet

(Sharon continues her Notes from the Playground series) When you take your kids to the park, say once, twice, maybe three times a day, you end up meeting lots of people. Well, more like you run into a lot of parents, who are in the same boat as you. Luckily for us, the hood seems to attract very cool “rents.” Folks are really down to earth, into their kids, and the neighborhood. And what’s not to like about the neighborhood? It’s…

Enchanted April

Want to meet one of your neighbors? How about Ryan Childers? He lives on 45th St down near Latona. By day, he's a preschool teacher. By night, he's Mellersh Wilton, an uptight and businesslike British gentleman following his wife to a villa in Italy. At least that's the character he's playing in Taproot Theater's production of Enchanted April. Ryan, who was born in Port Angeles but moved to Seattle 6 years ago (and to Wallingford 2 years ago), has been acting…

EWHA Clean-Up

The semi-fictitious East Wallingford Hot Tub Association is at it again this weekend, cleaning the streets. As they have previously, they'll be meeting up at the corner of 302 NE 44th St (corner of Latona) this Sunday, 10/18 at 10 am to take on supplies (bags, grippers, reflective vests, assignment maps, etc.) and then fanning out through their territory to pick up trash and wipe out graffiti. If you'd like to join them, just come on by. These have been a…
