Open Books Poetry

We have a bit of a confession to make. Despite being otherwise cultured, we hate poetry. Nothing against poets, mind you, it's the poetry we don't like. So often, it seems like a little more than poorly composed bit of prose turned into Art through the addition of mysteriously inappropriate line breaks. Still, we like Open Books: A Poetry Emporium (2414 N. 45th St.), because it seems at peace with itself. For one, their claim in their window is earnest without…

Market Report

We used to have this dream of setting up a small camp stove with boiling water next to a corn stalk and bending down an ear, still attached to the stalk and stalk to the ground, into the water to cook it. When it was done (doesn't need much time at all, really, just a minute or two), we'd eat it, still tethered to the earth. Missing Lorax

On the subject of missings, DOUG. noted in the comments section of Goodbye, Brave Little Painting that this was not the first painting nailed to a telephone pole to disappear from Wallingford recently. His own painting, of the Telephone Pole Lorax, was disappeared back in June, and responses appeared in the Stranger's Slog: You Had to Steal Their Chuckle. Note: As is typical in the Slog, the comments section contains strong language and needless vitriol.
