Kayak Opportunity

You've got a once in a blue moon opportunity this weekend: a chance to quietly paddle the Arboretum. Now sure, we hear you asking, "but can't I rent a canoe or kayak any weekend and paddle around the Arboretum?" Yes, you can, but you'll always been listening to that constant dull roar of 520 in the background. As luck would have it, 520 will be closed from 11 pm Friday through 5 am Monday, and while that roaring monster slumbers, you…

Dinner at Bella Cosa

You may remember that back in March, Bella Cosa changed owners. The new owners, Jared and Bronwyn Carpenter, along with Alex Pitt, have a dream of converting it into a fine dining establishment, complete with full kitchen in the evenings, and continuing the high-end deli sales during the day. The few times we've stopped in to check on progress, it's sounded like the challenge of conversion has been steep: permits for restaurants, especially when making changes to an older building that…

Wallingford Walk: Chickens, Goats and Bees

The monthly Wallingford Walk is making way for Solstice this weekend and moving to Sunday, and we're proud to say that we'll be a stop on the route. This walk will focus on the farmland among us, taking a tour of three Wallingford homes that house, respectively, chickens, goats and bees. (We got some asparagus last week that was a bit past its prime, be sure to check for freshness). Also, this week's cooking demonstration at 4 pm will feature Dustin Ronspies of Lower Wallingford's Art…

JSIS Growth

A month or so back, we mentioned how it was getting increasingly difficult to get a kindergartner into the John Stanford International School (JSIS Letters Out). Well, we just heard from Margie that things are a-changin'. Principal Kelly Aramaki just sent out a note announcing that a whole classroom full of new spots have just been added, and waitlisters are being called: It’s not everyday that you get a “Special Edition” of the From the Principal newsletter. But, today, I have…

Party with the Bag Monsters
