Block Party?

We got a question from Linda today, we thought maybe some neighbors could help answer: I'd love to hear from people that have organized a block party. How did you get people involved? Did you have to notify the city to block off the street, etc? Whatever the answer and whatever the block, we want an invite!

Fuerte Fitness

Wallingford may have found a solution to the energy crisis. Her name is Adriana Medina. She's not a solar scientist, but we swear if we could somehow figure out how to harness the energy this woman exudes, oil tankers would be turned back from U.S. ports. Adriana is the owner of Fuerte Fitness, the little gym you pass as you cross Stone Way on 45th St heading up into Fremont (1225 North 45th St), and she is a powerhouse. She gave…

Other Side of Garden Tour

While it sounds like the Wallingford Garden Tour was an overall success, we did receive one disturbing report from one of the hosts: Unfortunately, I had some very angry neighbors last night and am wondering if you or any of the other tour hosts knew a 50ish man in khaki with black hair and a black Dali-esque mustache. The neighbors saw him with the Tour booklet and he came to my house after 4 p.m., although I did not see him…

Weekend Traffic: UW Graduation

Earlier today, we reported on the impending traffic nightmare that is the Fourth of July. Sara D. reminded us that there's no need to wait for July for our dose of inch-an-hour traffic. This weekend is University of Washington graduation. Honestly, we wouldn't even try to bike on the Burke Gilman. Dig a tunnel and move around like a mole. It's your best bet.

Fourth of July Chaos

Batten down your hatches, people, this 4th of July is going to be a doozy. Wallingford typically sees 35,000 - 45,000 visitors coming through to Gas Works to watch the fireworks. This year, however, the crowds are going up a notch: the Elliot Bay fireworks display has been cancelled, meaning all the people who traditionally go there are coming here and we've got to get the solitaire apps prepared for them to relax with. The SPD is expecting an extra 10,000…
