Wallingford History

According to the 2000 Census, there were about 17,500 people living in Wallingford at that time. Let's figure that's closer to 21,000 now. By my math, that means 20,920 totally missed out last night because they weren't among the 80 or so folks listening to Paul Dorpat show slides and talk about Wallingford history at the Good Shepherd Center. He presents a fast-paced, fun and homey talk, and the slides, dating back to the 1860's, were gleefully fun watch. There's just…

Bike / Ped accident?

Jay sent in this report and question: Around 5pm last night (thursday), there was a fire truck and police car on Wallingford Ave and 48th, right by St. Bennedicts. Wallingford Ave was blocked off. I asked a man standing in the road (doing the blocking) about what had happened and he said that 2 cars had stopped for a pedestrian girl who was crossing the street, but that a biker went around the cars and plowed into her. Anybody able to…

Interesting Open House

Looks like there's a fun open house for serious home shoppers or looky loos alike this Sunday at 49th and Wallingford Ave N. From the realtors description: Do you feel that if you live in a city, then bring on the city? Does the daily pulsing of city life – people passing by, traffic, a walking score of 98/100 (Walk Score) – make your pulse race? But… do you also love tradition – a 100 year-old Craftsman that still has original…

Rummage Sale This Weekend

Slightly outside our borders, but we're a sucker for yard sales and schools. There's a rummage sale this Saturday, May 30th from 9 am - 5 pm at and to benefit the Daniel Bagley Elementary School at 7821 Stone Ave N. There's also the Yard Sale day at or near the John Stanford School on Saturday, but we're still waiting for details on that, which we're not grumpy about at all.
