More Outdoor Art

In response to our recent post about bird houses we had happened past, Mimi claimed another piece of outdoor art that we've always admired, this one in front of 2308 N 41st Street. The organic, rolling feel fits in perfectly with the rhododendron, cherry and other trees curling around it. While out art-spotting, we also passed this bit of oddness at 43rd Ave and Burke: And were honestly left wondering whether to classify this one as art. We decided yes: Mimi…

Good Pesach!

Tonight at sundown begins Passover, perhaps the raddest Jewish holiday of them all. So glad you asked. Passover is a celebration of the Jews escape from slavery in Egypt, throwing off the shackles of oppression and becoming a free people again. And the story isn't a slow, grinding process of…

Wallingford Archaeology

Peeling back time like skins from an onion, the renovation project going on to the building at 45th and Sunnyside has revealed a sign from ancient times. Look at the old name that was hidden beneath the paneling. Cute! (And no, we still haven't forgiven them for being flat out rude to us back in January.) (Thanks to Michelle for snapping the photo!)

La Cage aux Folles

Don't you love it when you're out for a stroll, and you come upon some small piece of art that's been there for ages that you just never noticed? It's a nice reminder that there's beauty under our noses at every turn. We happened past these two bird houses on 1st Ave NE just above 42nd St while enjoying the early bit of summer that visited yesterday. As luck would have it, the lady of the house, R., was enjoying the…
