Bella Cosa Renewed

The signs were all there. From her perch across the street at Chocolati, Mandy L. noticed "40 - 70% off" signs in Bella Cosa's window. Then Christine tweeted us: bella cosa under new management...no more salumi meats or imported cannoli cream. sniff sniff Now, Rachel F. has given us the full story, forwarded from Bella Cosa's mailing list: As most of you already know, Bella Cosa is under new ownership. My wife and I have purchased the business from Lin and…

Danse Perdue

This Saturday, the Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center will be home to Danse Perdue's butoh performance, Attitudes Passionelles. The Wayward Music Blog hosts their description, which we crib here in its entirety and without snarky comment: The word hysteria comes from the Greek hyster, meaning womb. For millenia it was believed the uterus moved chaotically through the body, driving women to distraction, licentiousness and madness. In the latter half of the 19th century at the Salpetriere asylum for…

Words of the Week

Hey Capitol Hill, how's it going? So, what's your Word of the Week? Hmmm? Don't have one? Oh, that's a pity. We've got two. Yeah, we know, it seems like a lot, but you get used to it. Yeah, that's one over on the right. The "Upper…

Stealing Peace

David F. recently tweeted us: Any idea what happened to the Sadako statue at the Peace Park? It's gone, and I assume that has something to do with the fixup, but not sure The statue to which he's referring is of Sadako Sasaki, a victim of the Hiroshima bomb. It has become a tradition to adorn the statue with origami cranes in her honor and in tribute to those who died. Peace Park is the small green area on the north…

Tweedy and Popp Bucket Brigade

It's a comin'! We first reported back in January (Bucket Brigade! and Tweedy and Popp: Inside Scoop) that the Wallingford Chamber was hatching a plan to help Tweedy and Popp move their hardware store down 45th St hand-to-hand, bucket brigade style. Well, the time is upon us. This Saturday, March 28th at 11 am, Wallingford chamber members, community council members and residents will form a human chain, passing merchandise out of the old digs and into the new. At least 12…

Puffin’

There has been much speculation as to whether the Best Cigar Shop opening on 45th will stock actual cigars or bongs. Some astute readers noted, however, that Wallingford already has a head shop, Puffin' Glass, located at 45th St and 4th Ave NE. A head shop? In Wallingford? We decided to investigate (sans Baby Z, bien sur!) This Sunday we popped our heads in and introduced ourselves, and, after a brief tense moment ("you're not going to write anything negative, are…
