City Cellar Anniversary Open House

The folks over at City Cellars Fine Wines (1710 North 45th St) will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary this Sunday, May 18th, with an open house from 3 - 6 pm. Appetizers and, yes, sparkling wines will be served. Twenty-five years: that shop has been there since 1989! For some perspective, in 1989: Chinese protesters took over Tiananmen Square, Mikhail Gorbachev was named president of the Soviet Union, P.W. Botha resigned the presidency of South Africa, the Berlin Wall was opened…

CompFIT Studio Open House

Kiymbah Tytania and Eric Wilson are opening a new dance / fitness space, CompFIT, at 4501 Interlake (on the block with Olympia Pizza, Spin's Barber Shop, The Drum Exchange and John's Music). I've known Eric for years, and I've seen him dance, drum, march in the Solstice Parade and generally drink deep from life's gourd, and there are few people with a more positive, exuberant and cheerful attitude towards movement, fitness and dance. But at some point, I realized that I had too much stuff already, and adding more stuff was burdening me, rather than elevating me. But I still go to garage sales whenever I can. It's not about the buying, it's about…

The Postman Rings for the Last Time

David Yao, who has worked at the Wallingford post office since 1999, writes: I just found out that J.T., the letter carrier who has served the area around the QFC/Wallingford Center for many years, will work his last day Thursday. They are having a little breakfast ceremony in the break room for him at the Wallingford Post Office, but the many customers he has served over the years probably are unaware of his impending retirement. He gives great service and has…
