Bedrooms and More: Not Going Anywhere

lbush October 11, 2024 Comments are off

A piece of Wallingford history is going up for sale, only this time it’s not a sad loss for our community. Bedrooms & More, a Wallingford stalwart, has just listed their original building for sale.

Fortunately, they will continue to thrive in their fancy new building on the corner of 4th and 45th (designed in the offices of Wallingford architect Stuart Silk).

After the completion of the 5-story building, they tried using their original location as a seating store, only to find that customers shopping in their new space often didn’t realize they sold living room furniture. Then they tried …

A Bad Intersection Gets Worse

Jack October 9, 2024 8 Comments

There’s an intersection in the south part of our neighborhood that’s always been bad for users of the Burke Gilman Trail and drivers trying to cross it. I don’t think it’s actually terribly dangerous — although the intersection has some risks for trail users – but it’s been a source of many moments of frustration and angst over the years. Let me explain.

The Location

The intersection I’m talking about is one of those irregular ones between Pacific St. and …

Farewell summer harvests; Hello Fall plantings!

Ellen Robinson October 5, 2024 Comments are off

After visiting this weeks final Wallingford Farmers Market (in a torrential downpour), I found myself overjoyed at the amazing bounty our Seattle summers produce and I also find myself thinking ahead to the fall garden plantings.   While autumn in the garden is typically associated with “clean up”, it is not too late to get a few more crops in the ground to turn your kitchen garden into a near-year round harvest.

Yes, you can still plant a few more things before the darkness descends!

Greens: You may not get a lush baby lettuce harvest right now, you can transplant kale, …

Lincoln Athletic Field: Your Input is Important

lbush September 29, 2024 12 Comments

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a site for a Lincoln High Athletic Field in or near Wallingford. With several zoning changes to accommodate population growth, it seems crucial that community voices are heard regarding the use of public open space and parks.

Seattle Public Schools is trying to identify a site for a new full sized athletic field for practice by the Lincoln High School football team, soccer, and PE classes for both Lincoln and Hamilton and more. This has become an urgent matter as Memorial Stadium, where Lincoln Football both practices and plays games will be demolished and rebuilt …
