The Great Wallingford Bratwurst Festival

lbush September 11, 2024 2 Comments

St Benedict’s is one of the oldest North End catholic parishes, dating back to when construction began in 1906.  Starting in 1983, as a way of raising money to support the parish school, the festival has become a community event celebrating kids going back to school.  New this year, the name has been changed to the Great Wallingford Bratwurst Festival.  Everyone is welcome to come enjoy this annual “Wallingford” event.

My First Psychic Reading with Tina the Good Witch

Hot Dish Not Included

As a proud Minnesotan, I consider neighborliness a core value—right up there with casserole creation. Yet, despite my deep dedication to being the kind of person who waves at neighbors from the porch like it’s an Olympic sport, I realized that I had been living down the street from a new neighbor for an entire year without stopping by. I know, it’s scandalous. But, no time for guilt! This revelation jolted me into action—spoiler alert, I did not bring a hotdish.

My new neighbor? Tina, proprietor of a Psychic Boutique who offers a range of services …

Wallingford Speakeasy: Community Supports Community

Rhonda Bush September 4, 2024 Comments are off

The sense that Wallingford is a small town within a big city is one aspect appreciated about this neighborhood. A big part of that feeling is neighbors supporting each other, the local small businesses and organizations that reside here. Vital to the vibrance of our community is the support of local activities, such as the Wallingford Parade, the Wallingford Community Senior Center activities, Family Works, school groups and activities like St. Benedict’s Great Bratwurst Festival, and civic organizations such as the Wallingford Community Council and Historic Wallingford.

The goal of this blog post is to point out and thank the …

Tweedy and Popp™ History

As many residents already know, Wallingford has a distinct family feel with its tree-lined streets, both cozy bungalows as well as grand homes both more than 100 years old, and an ever-changing commercial landscape along North 45th Street.   One of the remaining historic and iconic buildings in Wallingford is the Wallingford Center.

The Wallingford Center was a pioneering effort of the City of Seattle and the Seattle School District working with developer Lorig Associates to adaptively re-use the original Interlake Public School.   Today, the Wallingford Center is a Seattle Historic Landmark listed on the National Register …
