The Wallingford Community Council Continues to Work for You

Rhonda Bush May 14, 2024 1 Comment

The Wallingford Community Council, WCC, has long been an advocate for the community of Wallingford. Let’s give them lots of credit for slogging through the difficulties of Covid and demands of accurately sharing information about potential changes to the neighborhood as Seattle grows. Currently, information about the One Seattle Comprehensive Draft Plan, plans for development in the city for the next twenty years, has highest priority. Here is the link to the One Seattle Plan. The comment period has been extended to May 20th, 2024.

WCC held elections for the 2024-2025 board on May 8th at …

Your Next Meal at Murphy’s

Reheated Buffalo Chicken Wrap

While we all wait to see what happens with the future of the Murphy’s Pub property, I invite you to try my favorite dish on their menu: the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, $16. It’s everything you might want in a well-rounded pub meal. The much-beloved cafe’s new space at 3525 Stone Way N is practically across the street from their old spot, whose next incarnation will be a five-story office/retail building. Longer term residents of Wallingford will remember Stone Way Cafe’s new location at the corner of 35th and Stone as the site of Daly’s Paint & Decorating, one of the many light industrial businesses that once graced this now booming corridor.

Walking down Stone on May 2, I noticed …

Bartells Building Follow-Up!

Rhonda Bush May 8, 2024 5 Comments

For inquisitive minds, here is a follow up to a Wallyhood article about Bartells closing, posted in February, found here.

With a chance encounter at the corner of N. 45th and Burke Ave. N., my husband Larry and I met the property manager for the building at 1820 N. 45th, formerly known as Bartells Drugs—Mr. Frank Gellen.  We had stopped to thank a man painting out graffiti on the building—who turned out to be the 85-year-old handy man.  Mr. Gellen came around the corner and started a conversation about the building and the difficulty he was experiencing with …

Cascadia Pharmacy Opens at Wallingford Center

After a series of Pharmacy closings leaving the neighborhood wondering what the path forward looked like, we have some good news! Cascadia Pharmacy, A new independent pharmacy is opening in the former Pharmaca/Medly space inside the Wallingford Center. It belongs to a group of independent pharmacies across Washington, Oregon and Idaho all called Cascadia, but independently owned.

In addition to pharmacy services, Cascadia Pharmacy Wallingford will offer many of the supplements and homeopathic lines that the former Pharmaca in the same location carried, as well as specialty gifts, with a focus on local sourcing …
