Wallingford Farmer’s Market

Jordan Jordan May 27, 2009 5 Comments

Don’t forget: Wallingford Farmer’s Market starts at 3 pm today, Wednesday, at Wallingford Center. Check out highlights from last week in our Wallingford Market Report post.

Here’s a note from Sound Bites Sauces & Spread, one of the purveyors of local goodness you’ll find there today. We generally squint at claims of “natural” (it’s an unregulated term, as opposed to “organic”), but we like that all the ingredients are from Washington State.

Sound Bites Sauce & Spread Co. has introduced a “fiercely local” line of hummus, chimichurri and crackers made from all natural and local ingredients grown in Washington state. Their products incorporate a northwest twist on international favorites, utilizing locally grown ingredients. The ingredients include wine grape seed oil (instead of the traditional olive oil), garbanzo beans, white beans and red beans, camelina seeds (instead of tahini), red onions, and local herbs and spices.

Sound Bites currently features three flavors of hummus including:

  • Chardonnay White Bean Hummus
  • Merlot Red Bean Hummus
  • Riesling Garbanzo Hummus

Two flavors of chimichurri including:

  • Chimichurri del Norte con Cabernet Sauvignon Oil
  • Chimichurri del Norte con Lime Riesling

And three varieties of crackers including:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon Pepper Cracker
  • Chardonnay Camelina Cracker
  • Roasted Garlic Chardonnay Cracker

Farmers market visitors are encouraged to stop by the Sound Bites booth and sample any of their products.

Their garbanzo bean hummus is delicious! I buy it everytime I go to the Ballard FM…glad that they’re selling it in the Wallingford FM now!

I definitely fell for a couple products (a hummous and a chimichurri). I’m so happy to have our market back!

Zaw ran out of crusts by the time we were there at about 6:30, so looks like that idea is going well!

I wish there was a better selection of food vendors there. Those quesadillas just aren’t cutting it. Seems like a few food vendors could mop up for families wanting to visit the market AND get dinner.
