On Monday, April 21st, Wallingford celebrated the opening of a new coffee shop and market, Stone’s Throw Coffee, in the location of the former Bounty on the northwest corner of Stone Way N and N 45th Street, in the heart of Wallingford.
Prior to the opening, I sat down with Jeff Lindstrom, who owns the shop along with his wife, Renee. This will be a true family-run business, as their children, Sonja and Bea, will also be supporting the shop. Additionally, Holly Jenkins, former manager of Bounty, was brought in as manager.
Jeff is well known in Wallingford as the owner of Team Health Insurance agency, and is actively involved in local community activities, like the St. Benedict’s Bratwurst Festival. Jeff had always wanted to own his own coffee shop, where he could incorporate his own design elements. He wanted a local community location, fostering a small-town feel in a big city environment.
He told me the name was derived from the shop’s proximity to Stone Way, as well as being a “stone’s throw” from his home and other interests. Jeff and Renee wanted a traditional coffee place, featuring a nice outdoor patio surrounded by a beautiful hedge for patrons to enjoy the morning sunlight. A pleasant surprise I found when sitting outside was the muffled traffic noise, making for an enjoyable experience.
The inside is also pleasantly laid out with comfortable chairs and tables. The market is well stocked with various items to go, including beverage selections and fresh cookies.
The coffee selections will feature Fulcrum Coffee Roasters. Additionally, beer and wine are available. The beer, or any cold beverage, comes in an ice-cold frozen glass (8 or 12 oz), which I found was a nice touch. Jeff explained there will be a rotating selection of wines that have passed his taste preference, and will be sold in bottles or carafes. Among the food selections, I tried the “pretzel wrapped dog,” which was awesome. Jeff prides himself on keeping the prices of his offerings as low as possible.
The hours of operation are 7 am–8 pm on weekdays and Saturdays and 7 am–5 pm on Sundays, making it a perfect stop for morning coffee or an after-work/school bite. Alongside the many coffee shops and wine bars in Wallingford, Stone’s Throw should definitely serve as a nice gathering place.

I live in the building, and it is so wonderful to see the new place and the folks outside enjoying themselves. I wish the Lindstrom's the best of luck with their new venture and adventure. I enjoyed a cup of coffee with a friend last week and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
