Welcome Sponsor: The Folkstore

Wallyhood would like to offer a warm welcome and thank you to our newest sponsor, The Folkstore. Tucked away behind the shade of a green maple on Roosevelt Ave, the Folkstore has that what-ya-see-is-what-ya get Appalachian sensibility that makes sense anywhere you can find it: it's a music store, operated by a musician for musicians, buying and selling musical instruments, books, strings and all manner of musical necessity. There's just nothing to argue with about that. While a Seattle Times article…

Reminder: Send Us Garage Sales

As we did last week, we'll be publishing a map of the weekend's Wallingford / Green Lake garage sales on Friday, but we need information from you about where, when and what you're selling. E-mail us at [email protected] and let us know what you're planning. Last week's map got over 6,100 views, so it's a great opportunity to unload your crap...errr...pass along your family treasures.

Block Party / Night Out Info

Last month, we posted a reader's question asking how one goes about holding a block party (including getting city permission to close off the block). For those of you who didn't read the comments, here's the skinny: There is a city-sponsored "Night Out Against Crime" coming up August 4th, where they're encouraging people across the city to hold block parties and stay out late, talk to neighbors and not break into each other's cars. If you're interested in organizing one for…

Weekend Report

My Green Lake reports that Milk Carton Derby was a big success: Most notably, 500 pounds of food and $500 was donated to Northwest Harvest. It was a bit windy out (though talk about luck with the weather considering today’s rain) so we found it most exciting to watch the boats battle to stay behind the starting line until “Ready! Set! Go!” From the looks of it, there were some great floats afloat: Unfortunately, we couldn't attend the Kiddie Parade, but…
