Wallyhood hosted one of its irregular, aperiodic, and deeply entertaining neighborhood meetups at The Rebel (formerly Kate’s Pub). We had publicized this in a couple of postings recently, but frankly, we the editors were a little worried that it would be the five of us sitting in the back room with the pool table drinking pitchers of beer and eating wings and chips. Which would not be a bad thing, by any stretch, as the other four editors, at least, are really good, fun folks.

We needn’t have worried, because Wallyhood Nation turned out for us and we had a nice crowd show up to say hello, help us drink that beer and eat those wings, and chat with neighbors. In the past, we’ve done a semi-structured program where we talk about the year in review and solicit story ideas for the future. This time, we simply wanted to say hello, thank you, and…if the opportunity arose, cajole unsuspecting people into become new writers or editors.

It was a lovely evening, meeting or reacquainting ourselves with a slice of the neighborhood who had heard of us, are regular readers, or are small business owners who have supported our little blog over the years. For me, as a relatively new member of Wallyhood’s editorial staff, it was a reminder of how our little online missive can integrate into the fabric of a neighborhood and help to bring us just a little bit closer in an increasingly alienating world.

We plan to do more of these meetups in the coming months—because just like Congressional representatives and their townhall meetings, we LOVE face-to-face opportunities to meet with our constituents!
