From the ashes of the Luau…

Jordan Jordan February 15, 2010 3 Comments

Goodbye Luau, hello Pour House! Yep, it was just weeks ago that the Luau Polynesian Lounge in Tangletown closed for good, but the new owners, Jay Farias and Erik Knutson, are already hard at work on remodeling its replacement, the Pour House Bar & Dining. We learn from Nancy Leeson at the Seattle Times that:

Farias owned the Nickerson Street Saloon for a decade and later opened Joe’s on Roosevelt (now the Roosevelt Ale House). His latest venture, Stix, a bastion for billiards and booze on Lake Union, “was a bomb” he said, explaining it was his big brother’s idea. “The rent was too high and we got too big for our britches. That’s what you get from listening to your brother!” Knutson “comes from a more music/nightclub background.”

At the Pour House, “the concept is totally different from what I’ve done before,” says Farias. His chef, as yet unnamed — since he’s still employed elsewhere — has “worked for a major name throughout the country.” The menu will be “upscale casual without the pretension,” and small plates will likely loom large.

(Thanks My Green Lake for the tip)

I’m wondering what their connection (if any) is to the Lagunitas Brewing Co, whose logo figures prominently on the Pour House’s temporary signage.

As long as they have more than one server it can’t possibly be worst than Stix was.

I had the same question as Doug but after looking up Lagunitas Brewing Co. online it seems unlikely that they are strongly connected. If nothing else, however, I’m hopeful that it means there will be a nice selection of microbrews from outside the northwest.
