Wallingford Nightlife: Do You Care?

Jordan Jordan April 29, 2010 21 Comments

A few weeks back, we introduced a new resource to our ever burgeoning trove of Wallingford wonkery: the Wallingford Nightlife Calendar, an oft-updated compendium of all the adult-focused music, trivia nights, and dancing around our unprepossessing little ‘hood. It listed the bands playing at SeaMonster, the trivia nights and open mic nights at Murphy’s, North Indian music night at Kabul, even salsa nights at that bar we love to hate, Babalu.

Nobody seems to care.

That is, based on our spot check of our analytics, it looks like only a small handful of people are looking at it on any given day, and we’re not seeing any particular spike around the weekends, as one would hope for a nightlife calendar.

So, dear reader, we ask you: should we continue to maintain this? Is there something more you’d like to see us do with it to make it more relevant and useful? Perhaps you’d like to see us focusing more on kids activities around the neighborhood? Should we just fold back in a few of the more interesting and unique happenings into our Wallingford Events calendar and save ourselves some time?

Hmmm. I don’t really use any of the calendars, but I like reading about night-life and other grown-up things like farmers’ markets, plant sales, restaurants, etc. on the main stories.  Thanks!

What Raffaella said. I like reading about night-life but I don’t use any of the calendars.

What the others said… I check out the Wallingford Events panel in the sidebar, but that’s about it.

We’re moving back to Wallingford in a week!
What they ^ said. Except it might be handy to see a general calendar of recurring nightlife events (that way no one has to update regularly!)

Patrick, welcome back to the hood!
I concur with Raffaella, Lauren & protected static.   I’m not using it except to write updates for this blog.  😉

I’m moving to Wallingford in July and have been really looking forward to having the event calender…one of the (many) reasons I’m moving is because I love walking to night-life, it’ll be great to have a consolidated calender listing what I can do!

Honestly, the only thing we get out of the nightlife info is knowing when Dick’s is going to be overrun, thus increasing the trash in our yard. I tend to check the main blog to see what kind of kids stuff is going on, but with a 7-year-old, we don’t go out much on a whim.

It’s impossible to decipher. Otherwise I’d use it.

I forgot it was there. I would definitely use it from time to time. It looks well layed out. So i hope you keep it.

I retract my statement @8. I had my viewer set on “WEEK”, which was weak indeed. Keep it!

I LOVE it and downloaded it to my own Google calendar. I don’t get to go out that often, but I want to, need to and will make it happen this summer. The Wally NightLife Calendar is so helpful. I vote to keep it!! I never knew how much awesome stuff there was right here in Wallingford. I thought it was only Farmer’s Markets and Kid Parades.

I appreciate that the calendar is there, and someday, when I am no longer a mother of a high school senior and it is no longer Ultimate Frisbee season, I look forward to using it.

I’m WAY too old to be looking for nightlife, but loved finding out that Kabul has some North Indian music, which could be a great resource for me to get suggestions about where our Habitat for Humanity group might go next year to find out about the region.  Keep posting!

I didn’t know about the calendar  and will take a closer look.  I do like to wander out and have a drink in the neighborhood now and then.  Keep it going!

No, I have to admit we don’t use the Wallingford Nightlife Calendar at all. We’ve got 2 young kids. And nights out are rare for us. But I still think it’s great that you post that stuff !

Didn’t even realize it existed.  I will check it out now.

Can you also post Wallingford’s daylife? OmCulture near Gasworks will soon be offering a variety of kid oriented programs from morning pre-school open studio to afternoon kid and teen yoga and dance classes. Might be worth knowing where you can come play with the kids or drop off the teens, eh?

There are so many facets and means to get info onhere.
I cant keep track of them all.

    I read what I  see.

I suggest that you  streamline  everything-
    ONE calendar
    ONE forum of comments

    Ijust read more.

You included a comment about Babalu’s,”that bar we olove to hate..”

    Why?

As far as I have been reading in the last few months there has been NO bad mouthing of anyoen or anything. My adamancy and others against the Wallingford Job Club which had a large  consultant and fee component was erased.

How about  providing that  neutrality to all?

    Cathy:
Didn’t you know that only Wallyhood’s opinions matter?  Dissent is quelled.  I hope someone reads this before it’s sure to be deleted.

@SBK: Very strange. In my year and a half of running Wallyhood, I’ve only deleted 2 comments. There are a TON I wish I could delete, but it’s against my policy unless the comment involves a personal attack against another reader. Dissenting opinions are never enough to warrant deletion. What are you talking about?

Wallyhood needs you!
