Crazy Beans Leaves Town

Helen May 4, 2010 11 Comments

I saw this Tuesday morning at the corner of 45th and Corliss. The Crazy Beans drive-thru espresso stand all packed up and ready to hit the road. The moving crew told me they were hauling it up to Mukilteo, but didn’t know if there was going to be a replacement. Now where are we going to go for our in-the-car quick-fixes of caffeine?

Remember the Roosters place that used to be there? That one got shipped off somewhere else too. Is this location jinxed?

I believe the property owner told Roosters they had to move so they (the land owner) could run their own drive through coffee joint. Roosters didn’t want to sell their location to the landowner, so they built their own (Crazy Beans). Doesn’t sound like Crazy Beans was able to make it like Roosters was. Capitalism is a bitch.
Roosters relocated near the intersection of Lake City Way and Roosevelt. They have another location or two also.

Roosters’ second location is at the north end of Lake City Way, north of 145th.
The Crazy Bean owners were(are?) the same as the owners of the pay-day loan scambusiness. While I liked the girls who worked there, the quality of their coffee went way downhill the past 9 months or so. Sad to see the business close though — there’s no more locations in Wallingford with walkup service of any kind, and it was a regular stop for most dog walkers.

And there goes the only redeeming feature on that stretch of 45th…

Get that tacky check-cashing place out of there and I’m betting we could have a fine expresso stand. (Not to mention a produce market — anyone remember that idea?)

I don’t know Doug – there are other redeeming places. The old, old shoe repair shop, Sea Thai – and even the Erotic Bakery (which I don’t frequent often, but is long-established and a good W-ford citizen). I also like the people at the UPS store … and finally … we have a new car shop. Not as fancy as the strip of stores with Not-A-Number, etc…..but hey….some redeeming features!

Good riddance! We don’t need drive-through espresso stands in pedestrian friendly Wallingford. Too bad the Taco Time can’t simply be towed away. 🙂

Peg @5: Let me clarify. I was speaking only of the NORTH side of that block (and including Taco Time). The south side is treasure trove, with Al’s, Kabul, Swanson’s, Sea Thai and the new old dive bar.

@6 – Mostly agree, but between this and the loss of the coffee stand outside QFC, the only other pedestrian friendly/oriented businesses are Dick’s and the Taco Truck.

    I’m hoping to open a bikini-barista stand there…

I would hardly call Dick’s pedestrian friendly. Many times I’ve been nearly run over by someone (damn college kids!) pulling out or in without looking.
I’m not blaming the Dick’s people, but their parking lot is what it is.

well, the demise of Crazy Beans is kind of karmic, really – i heard Rooster’s was forced out so the PayDay Loan guy’s girlfriend could have that drive-thru espresso stand. some said they’d always boycott it but i finally tried it not long ago, asked how business was (“fine”), then they were empty 2 wks later.
new coffee place coming in next to Djan’s, east of Hawaii General Store block, by end of June/July 1: A Muddy Cup!
