Murray seeks photo opp at Izilla

Jordan Jordan May 1, 2010 4 Comments

Senator Patty Murray will be at Wallingford’s Izilla Toys (in the Wallingford Center, 4400 Wallingford Ave N) this Monday, May 3 at 10 am for a bit of PR theatrics. From her press release:

On Monday, May 3, 2010, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) will join with Seattle-area families and small business owners to discuss the importance of tough legislation to reform Wall St. and protect Washington state families.

Senator Murray will discuss her priorities for Wall St. reform. And local families, seniors, and small business owners will tell their stories about how they were harmed by the irresponsible Wall St. practices that Senator Murray is fighting to end.

WHO:

  • U.S. Senator Patty Murray
  • Jude LaRene, owner of Izilla Toys
  • Dusty Hoerler, unemployed member of Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters
  • Gus Ramos, senior citizen who had to find new job after financial collapse
  • Dixie Mitchell, senior citizen fighting to save her home from foreclosure

WHAT: Press conference to discuss impact of Wall St. irresponsibility on Seattle families and small business owners, need for reform

No word on why doe-eyed babies and puppy dogs were excluded from the line-up.

May Patty Murray’s tennis shoes (she ran as “a mom in tennis shoes”) rest easily in the closet.  Her record on  behalf of veterans, both in voting against Iraq’s invasion and in aiding returning veterans, puts her on dry land in the political swamp.  On with the combat boots Murray and kick some …

btw, this is not an event for the community as it says on Sustainable Wallingford.  please don’t try to attend thinking it’s a gathering or big discussion group.  Izilla has a music class that starts at 10:30 and they’d love to kick everyone out by then!  thanks.

Why Izilla and not say, the Senior Center? Seems like a really bizarre choice of venues.

if anyone’s still interested – yes, i agree!  it was hastily put together by a Murray staffer who knows Jude & Jen of Izilla.  i also thought it was odd that, considering the subject matter, they didn’t seem to know much about the community they were doing this in!  which is why as soon as i heard Fri, i tried to get hold of her offices here and in DC, but no one called me back.  i made sure to mention our senior center to an aide of heres i’d met before, and to her herself, actually, afterwards.
luckily, the music class began just after 10:30!
