Weekend Round-up

Liz May 27, 2010 3 Comments

Here’s what’s happening in Wallingford this weekend. Plus a few things that might be worth venturing out for.

  • Starting Friday, Sex in the City 2 is playing on both screens at The Guild this weekend. (Anyone else surprised by that?)
  • If you’re throwing a party, you won’t have to travel as far for that last minute trip to the liquor store. The new one is opening up at 45th & 2nd ave on Friday. More on that here.
  • Live acoustic music from Jessika Kenney at the Good Shepard Center on Friday at 8pm.
  • Fruit Protection Workshops Saturday morning at the Good Shepard Center starting at 9am. Contact Lily at [email protected] for more info.
  • Live music Saturday at Kate’s Pub and Babalu, plus a DJ at May Thai.
  • As usual, there’s Karaoke at Changes on Friday and Sunday.
  • Latin dancing at Selena’s on both Friday (at 9:30pm) and Saturday (at 11pm).
  • And last but certainly not least, The 39th Annual Folklife Festival is this weekend (Friday through Monday) at Seattle Center. It’s a huge festival featuring dance, music, artists, food and shopping from a variety of countries and cultures around the world. It’s kind of like the U District Street Fair times ten.

The rain should be gone by Saturday so be sure to make the most of what should be a beautiful weekend!

Bad move by The Guild to occupy Wallingford’s only two theaters with this film, and this film only.

We do not choose the films that get played in our theaters.  There are programmers in LA that do that.  But 2 years ago we had Sex and the City in both houses, and it was our most successful movie in quite some time.

If the film doesn’t make the type of money everyone was expecting, then it would be a safe bet that it will not be occupying both screens for more than a week or two.

I bummed to find out that our “neighborhood” theater’s films are programmed in LA. And I’m not surprised that Sex and the City did boffo box office at The Guild. It certainly is a marketing machine.
