Celebrate the Harvest with Tilth

Helen September 1, 2010 1 Comment

“whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7)

And if he soweth green beans, cherry tomatoes and zucchini in Seattle, then it’s time to reap and celebrate!

Seattle Tilth’s annual Harvest Fair will be Saturday, September 11th from 10 AM to 5 PM in the picnic shelter and lawns behind the Good Shepherd Center.  (That’s right, on 9/11.  Let’s try to affirm life and counterbalance the sadness of the anniversary).

Have some old-fashioned fun while learning something new at Seattle’s city farm fest!  Workshop topics include:  foraging, turning your lawn into a veggie garden, winter gardening, fermenting foods, composting, beekeeping, and harvesting rainwater.  There will be an abundant organic farmer’s market, an urban livestock area, book signings, panel discussions, chef’s demo, live music, tasty food and more.  Read all about it …

Kids join the fun with these special activities:

  • Participate in activities in the Children’s Garden like face painting, worm bin exploration, and garden crafts. Join the Harvest Parade at noon (bring musical instruments).
  • Make an herb crown (donations of fresh cut herbs & flowers are welcome)

And if you really want to throw yourself into the spirit of the occasion, you can volunteer:

  • Volunteer. Lend a hand and enjoy the comaraderie, good snacks and party afterwards.  Check back for the volunteer schedule.  Find out more…

Or just sit back and enjoy the fruits of our regional growing labors.

Hey, just want to throw in that I’ll be there at noon with Readers to Eaters, signing copies of my novel, The School of Essential Ingredients. (local author, Erica Bauermeister)
