When It Snows, All Cars Are White

Helen November 23, 2010 1 Comment

[Ed note: There are over 100 Metro buses stranded around the city, including one block from the JSIS where we live. You can check http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/rr/adverseweather.html for info on your route, or use the One Busy Away App for your iPhone / Android / Windows Phone 7 / SMS to see your bus not coming with the newest technology available. The city has opened extra homeless shelters and will be opening the city libraries at 1 pm as warming centers. As for us, we’re grabbing a sled and heading out with Baby Z to make the best of it. Enjoy!

Update: DOUG. gave us the heads up that One Bus Away is not working: “Metro buses are not yet equipped with GPS, and the tracking that One Bus Away uses does not work well on reroutes. Metro will be equipping buses with GPS next year… five years after Portland managed to do it.” Full explanation on the One Bus Away web site.]

Looking out the window this morning my daughter said “when it snows, all cars are white.”  Profound?

Entrance to the Tilth Gardens.  Behind me, giggling schoolkids are being dropped off, bundled up in unaccustomed hats, scarves, gloves and boots.

Surprised flowers.

Everything looks beautiful under snow.

These guys were having too much fun, and say they’re loyal readers!  (Please leave a comment if you would like me to email you a copy, guys, you both look mahvelous).

Snowy playground.

45th Street completely empty – an odd sight on a Monday morning.

The day before at QFC – wow, that was fast preparation!

One Bus Away has been turned off and is not working. The reasons why are explained here.

Basically Metro buses are not yet equipped with GPS, and the tracking that One Bus Away uses does not work well on reroutes. Metro will be equipping buses with GPS next year… five years after Portland managed to do it.
