Buffy’s Birthday at Comics Dungeon

Jordan Jordan January 18, 2011 3 Comments

The whole Buffy the Vampire Slayer craze has always puzzled us a bit, but this is a point on which we are clearly in the minority. Apparently, January 19th or thereabouts is Buffy’s birthday, as celebrated in the January 19th or thereabouts episode each year. Tomorrow (Wednesday) is January 19th, Buffy turns 30, and there’s going to be a celebration at Wallingford’s Comics Dungeon. Says Erica McGillivray of GeekGirlCon:

Our favorite Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers, is turning the big 3-0 on January 19th, 2011 and GeekGirlCon wants to celebrate!

Buffy’s birthdays always fall prey to disaster: be it boyfriends who turn evil, inexplicable loss of powers, little sisters who get into trouble – and little sisters who get into trouble again. Whatever it is, something always goes horribly, terribly, awry. So we plan on making this a great one for the woman who fights the forces of evil and saves the world! A lot!

Here in Seattle, where GeekGirlCon is based, we are pleased to co-host an event with the fabulous, female-friendly Comics Dungeon in Wallingford. They will be providing discounts of up to 25% on Whedon titles! We will bring cake! There may be singing! As this occasion also marks the release of the finale of the ground-breaking comic book series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, Dark Horse is helping comic book stores around the country celebrate with games, prizes, and giveaways.

GeekGirlCon’s celebration at Comics Dungeon will take place from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2011.

GeekGirlCon, we’re told, is a nonprofit dedicated to “promoting awareness of and celebrating the contribution and involvement of women in all aspects of the sciences, science fiction, comics, gaming and related Geek culture through conventions and events that emphasize both the historic and ongoing contribution and influence of women in this culture.”

Buffy was a cool series. Nothing too puzzling, really, just keeping vampires in check, and other nasties, too.
