What in the Wallingford?

Jordan Jordan February 9, 2011 7 Comments

Yes, it’s time again for our weekly contest (cue the theme music), What in the Wallingford? in which you, the reader, guess what and where a photo was taken. The only clue we’ll give: it’s in Wallingford!

Last week’s puzzle was a bit too easy, with the first correct answer coming a mere six minutes after the contest was posted. Hopefully, this one will take a bit longer. We only ask that if you were involved in the creation or placement of the object of this photo, you recuse yourself this time around (that means you, Christina!)

Last week’s winner received a $10 gift certificate to the wonderful Smash Wine Bar and Bistro, this week’s winner will receive one of Scarecrow Video’s famous sticker coupons: an attractive Scarecrow sticker on one side, and on the other, a coupon good for two free rentals or 10% off a purchase.

First person to post the correct answer in the comments section of this post takes the prize.

3 hours & no nibbles, Wallyhood! Looks like you stumped us. I’m going to guess – inaccurately – that it’s the disco ball at the Grizzled Wizard. Am I right?

Hm… no parking bollards in front of Rain or Seattle Stained Glass (nor, as far as I can tell, Seattle Mosaic Arts 🙂 )

Oooh, good thought on the parking bollard, though!

This would seem too obvious, but does it have anything to do with Ivar’s?

Ahh, if you’re a south Wallingfordite who walks to/from John Stanford Int’l School (as my son and I do) you would know what this is. It’s the mosaic work on the top of one of the central posts of the stairway leading from lower NE 40th to upper NE 40th at 4th Avenue NE. Looks to me like a fish in lovely blue water.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Good eye, Barb.

I love this little gem, because it takes something could be purely industrial / functional and frosts it in beauty.
