While every cloud may have a silver lining, every dump must have a pretty patch of green. This adage rings particularly true if the dump happens to be in our neighborhood, which is why the Wallingford Community Council (WCC) is working with a landscape designer and a Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) facilitator to create some green spaces adjacent to the newly-redesigned North Transfer Station (see map below). Would you like to volunteer to help design the space? Sure, c’mon, why not! They could certainly use a few volunteers, and they’re only holding 3 or 4 meetings between August and October 2011, so the time commitment is minimal. As part of the North Transfer Station rebuild, a large swath of green space will be developed on the west side of Woodlawn Ave N between 34th and 35th, as well as a park on the NW corner of Woodlawn and 35th (currently a parking lot). How this park is designed (use and appearance) is yet to be determined. With the assistance of an SPU facilitator and a landscape designer, you can help create a beautiful, functional public space that will be enjoyed by Wallingfordians for years to come.
