Shine on Seattle

Shine On Seattle is a community bike-ride fundraiser benefiting Seattle Public Schools where participants will ride as sponsors for their school of choice. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase shares for local schools in Seattle City Light’s groundbreaking Community Solar Project. The fun starts at Gas Works Park at 8:00 a.m. (ride at 9:00 a.m.) on Sunday, October 9th. As of Monday afternoon, 70 riders had registered, according to the Facebook page.

Details:

  • WHAT: 10-mile family-friendly ride
  • WHEN: Sunday, October 9, 2011. Check-in starts at 8:00 a.m., ride starts at 9:00 a.m.
  • WHERE: Gas Works Park. The route will follow the Burke-Gilman Trail with a turnaround near Magnuson Park
  • BENEFITING: 5 Schools from Wallingford, Queen Anne, and Magnolia; Any School with a Seattle City Light Account can participate and benefit
  • SPONSORS: The event is sponsored by Umpqua Bank and supported by Washington Green Schools, Northwest SEED, and several community sustainable organizations
  • GOAL: Raise $10K for Seattle Schools to own shares in the Community Solar Project
  • REGISTER: Register online through Saturday, October 8th for $25 or at Gas Works on Sunday for $30

At the finish line celebration at Gas Works Park, riders will claim Shine on Seattle reusable grocery goodie bags and check out sponsor tables for information on other green opportunities.
