November Wallingford Community Kitchen

It’s time for the November Wallingford Community Kitchen!  There’s nothing better than the warmth of both kitchens and neighbors this time of year.  What a combo. Which is why you want to go to there.

The Wallingford Community Kitchen Holiday Celebration is Friday, November 18th from 5:30pm to 9pm at the Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center (WCSC) at the Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Room 140.  Cooking starts at 5:30pm;  dinner served around 8pm. This is a no-fee event, however, please RSVP for head-count purposes.

The holiday celebration will include a communal soup, and Emma Notkin will assist in baking & decorating sugar cookies. From Sustainable Wallingford:

“We cook as a community and then enjoy the bounties of our labor by sitting down to share a meal. This event is a little different than our normal gatherings; we ask that you bring an ingredient for the soup pot, along with a dish to share with the group – an appetizer, salad, dessert or drink (please no bread products as we receive those by donation). We’ll get creative and come up with 2, 3, 4 soups – depending on what shows up and how many people come. We will have spices available and will plan this is a vegetarian meal, so no meat products please. Please post what you plan to bring so that we can minimize too many repeats.

Here’s some ideas to get you started:
• Beans – black, kidney, lentils, white, navy, etc (please bring your hearty beans pre-cooked)
• Cabbage
• Carrots
• Celery
• Coconut milk
• Corn
• Cream
• Green beans
• Kale
• Leeks
• Onions
• Parsnips
• Peas
• Peppers
• Potatoes
• Sweet potatoes
• Swiss chard
• Tomatoes
• Wild rice
• Winter squash
• Zucchini

Participation in these events requires a certain level of commitment; we are cooking as a community and that includes work setting the room, cleaning up and of course the fun stuff of cooking and eating. We ask that all participants do their best to arrive by our start time of 5:30pm. If you are new to attending, you may want to arrive a few minutes early to find the bathrooms, stash you personal items and get comfortable with the set-up. If for whatever reason you cannot arrive on-time, please plan to stay with us to the end of the night to help with clean-up. Ideally we will try and wrap up by 9:00 pm – the ability to do this truly depends on each and every one of you and your commitment to step up and proactively keep us clean throughout the event.”

You know the drill by now!  Bring along some containers for leftovers, and don’t forget that the WCSC is always in need of extra containers.  So please bring along some clean, gently-used plastic yogurt, sour cream, salsa, etc. containers to donate.

Nom nom!  RSVP here.
