Danny

Shane wrote to tell us that his cat Danny (pictured right) has been missing for over a week. He’s a six year-old gray and white tabby and “very skinny.” He’s wearing a green and white collar.

Danny was last seen around Wallingford Avenue and 35th/36th. If you’ve seen Danny, please give Shane a call at 206.261.2034 or email at [email protected].…

Post-Holiday “Green” Donations

barbbsea December 27, 2011 7 Comments

“It’s The Most Wa-asteful Time Of The Year” – you know the tune,  now  put those holiday trappings where they belong. Such as: Old computers: The very best place for refurbishing and reusing computers and computer peripherals is InterConnection, at 3415 Stone Way N. InterConnection will also take non-computer electronics and pass them on to local recyclers. 206-633-1517 Wrapping paper: Save the best for next year. Recycle other paper  wrapping, remove tape when possible. Metallic and plastic wrapping goes in the garbage. Gift bags: Save for reuse. If too ratty to re-gift, remove non-paper handles and recycle.…

Bike Lane at Dick’s

Jordan December 27, 2011 14 Comments

You may remember back in October, when Madi alerted us that 45th Street in front of Dick’s held the dubious honor of being the most dangerous intersection for cyclists in the city. It looks like the city has taken some steps to address the problem:

The Seattle Bike Blog reports that “SDOT has installed a buffered bike lane in front of the popular burger joint. The lane replaces what previously was empty space on the roadway. The extra-wide lane on this segment of 45th, at the bottom of a fairly steep hill, made the behavior of all road users fairly …

Art of Gifts to Close

Jordan December 26, 2011 Comments are off

We just received the following note from Amita, owner of the Art of Gifts, the shop tucked in next to the 45th St entrance to Wallingford Center:

Amita “The Art of Gifts” at the heart of Wallingford on the steps of Wallingford Center will be closing mid January 2012. I am sad to announce this news to the many people who have entered my life through the store over the years. It has been a great 9 years here and wish there could be many more. The economic situation has been challenging to ride for the past few years, like …

Publican Opens Tomorrow

Jordan December 26, 2011 22 Comments

North Seattle Sarah got to attend the “soft opening” of The Publican, the new restaurant and bar by the Brouwer’s Cafe / Bottleworks crew opening where Bandolero once stood in Tangletown (2253 N 56th Street). On her blog, she reports:

The Publican has 21 taps for craft beer, and offers an incredible selection from an efficient storage system. […]  If you don’t want a beer on tap, just try their bottle selection – no wait, scratch that.  There is NO bottle selection.  Instead, there is a substantial menu of canned beers, which makes for a refreshing change. […]   Like Bandolero, …

Updated 411 on the 4111

Jordan December 26, 2011 2 Comments

(Updated: 12/26 9:20 am: I misread the order of things and got “newer” and “older” designs reversed. Corrected flow and opinions on same below.)

There was quite a bit of conversation a week ago about the 4111 Stone Way development project, and whether the building design was a “fit” for the neighborhood. One sharp-eyed reader pointed out that older drawings of the building provided in the Early Design Guidance document available on the City of Seattle web site shows a much more attractive, neighborhood friendly building in many ways. At left is the drawing as it appears in the original …
