Adopt-a-Street Cleanup

Jordan Jordan March 27, 2012 7 Comments

If you dial the way-back-machine, you’ll find that the first ever post on Wallyhood was about a group of folks living around Latona below 45th who adopted their street for regular clean-ups.

Blessedly, they’re still at it. This Sunday, April 1st the optimistically named East Wallingford Hot Tub Association will be hosting a spring clean-up of the streets in their neighborhood beginning at 10 am. Says they:

Officially we have adopted 4th, Latona, and Thackeray between 40th and 46th although with enough people we like to also clean 5th, especially near the bus stop.

So, if you would like to:

  • get outside to enjoy the beautiful spring weather
  • meet your neighbors
  • help cleanup the neighborhood we all live in
  • learn about the East Wallingford Hot Tub Association (and why it has little to do with hot tubs)

Please Join Us Sunday morning in our driveway at the NE corner of Latona and NE 44th. We will have all supplies but feel free to bring gloves. Scott, Karen and Phaedra, 302 NE 44th St

No foolin’.

The Wallingford Chamber is sponsering the 3rd annual Operation Beautification Wallingford on April 21st an Earth Day celebration. Meet us on the Wallingford Center plaza at 11. We will have 5 of the major organizations represented. More on this to come! Our goal is to bring community together.

Where is the W Center? The Senior Center in the Good Sheperd? The WCC office? The Shopping center? The home of library, food bank, library, solid ground?

Wallingford Center is across from the QFC 45th and Wallingford Ave. It’s that huge building that looks like a school. Are you from Wallingford?

Sometimes I wonder if coolio, or whatever her name is this week, is from the same planet.

    Dear Neighbor,
Let’s be more gentle with our comments. “Our goal is to bring community together.”

Now, you must admit all of these Wallingford names and entities can be confusing. Probably not that many Wallingford residents can keep these names straight – and I’m sure others can add to this list.

Wallingford Center: a retail area, located in the old public school on 45th and Wallingford. Wallingford Senior Center / Wallingford Community Senior Center / Senior Center: located in the Good Shepherd Center. Wallingford Neighborhood Office / Wallingford Neighborhood Association / Weaving Wallingford: found at office behind Tully’s on Meridian. Then you have the Wallingford Community Council (WCC) and the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce (W??)
