Bizim ev xoş gəlmisiniz!

Google Translate tells me that the headline reads “Welcome to our home!” in Azerbaijani, which is what you would be saying if you were a host family. The UW organization Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (www.fiuts.org) is seeking families to host youth leaders from Azerbaijan for a homestay from August 27-September 9. Here are the details:

The Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (www.fiuts.org) is welcoming a group of high school students to Seattle from August 27-September 9 as part of an intensive youth leadership and cultural exchange program. We have four boys who are still in need of host families, so please contact [email protected] if you are interested in hosting one or both of these students! Hosting is a great way to learn about a new part of the world, share the city that you love with an international visitor, and help a young person work for change in their country and community.

During their time in Seattle, students will travel to and from the university each day via public transportation to participate program activities, and will spend evenings and two free days with their host families. We welcome all kinds of hosts, including single professionals and students, families with or without children, and multigenerational households. Students may be hosted individually or in pairs.

Interested individuals can contact Ellen Frierson at [email protected] for more details or apply directly to be a host atwww.fiuts.org/community/homestay/hostapplication.

More information about the youth leadership program is available at www.fiuts.org/programs/shorttermprograms/azberbaijan-youth-leadership.

Ellen also tells us that students will be participating in an intensive program to develop leadership skills, learn about civic engagement, and engage in cultural exchange. The deadline to apply to be a host is this Thursday, August 16. FIUTS also has an opportunity to host teachers who are accompanying students on this program.
