Goonies at Gas Works

Jordan Jordan August 6, 2012 3 Comments

Next Sunday, August 19th, The World Is Fun, a local non-profit that encourages volunteerism, will be show The Goonies at Gas Works Park:

The World is Fun (TWIF) is partnering with The Community Cinema Group and Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to present a free showing of The Goonies at Gasworks Park on Sunday, August 19, 2012 with activities kicking off at 6:30 p.m. and the movie beginning at sunset.

Pre-movie events include fun-filled games and activities for all ages along with free snacks. There will also be an expo featuring local nonprofits to educate the public on the benefits of volunteerism and philanthropy, and share ideas on how they can get involved with groups and organizations in their neighborhoods.

The Community Cinema Group chose The Goonies because many of the themes fit in well with the goals for this nonprofit and community group showcase event. The movie inspires community, displays that group strength can lead to improving the wellbeing of others, and shows that breaking down barriers to working together can lead to overcoming challenges.  These themes go hand in hand with the benefits of volunteerism and philanthropy.

“Our goal for this event is not only to bring the community together for a night of fun, but also to engage the public in a continuing relationship with groups and organizations that are part of their neighborhoods,” said Amy Faulkner, TWIF Executive Director.

No, THIS Sunday is the 12th. NEXT Sunday is the 19th.

The Sunday after that is the 26th, for those of you playing the home game.
