We were away for the weekend, just catching up on the tips we missed. This one came in Friday from Laura:

What was up with the naked man walking through our neighborhood today about 10:45am?? Young,(maybe mid-20s), white, athletic build. I jogged passed him as he was walking northbound on Keystone/51st, saw a pair of socks and later a shirt on the sidewalk on Sunnyside (between 45th and 42nd) and a pair of jeans on 42nd/1st. I heard Green Lake Mom’s blog mentioned it but I’m not a subscriber so can’t read their blog. I’m just totally curious.

Indeed. On a dare or a tear?

I actually drove past him, went home and called 911. I assumed I’d be one of many callers, but no one else had called to report him. A police officer called me the next day to follow up – he’d taken the call, chased the man down (a mile+ chase) and told me he was most likely on crystal meth. He’s in custody now and getting psychological evaluation. The officer thanked me for calling; he said “Most people don’t.” I think people probably assume that someone else has taken care of it. Just a reminder.

I saw him too. I was actually walking about a block behind him down Keystone towards Tangletown for five blocks. The word from Greenlake Moms is that he is mentally ill and is often seen hanging out at the 7-11 on Aurora by the north entrance to the zoo. I believe he is not the same man that was naked in Greenlake a few weeks ago.

Thank you, Sara, for doing the responsible thing by calling the police…and for the reminder that it’s something the rest of us can do in a situation like this. Good thinking!

I run a neighborhood childcare and was notified by my staff about the naked man. One of our classes was at Mighty O Donuts when the man ran by. One of my staff was interviewed by the police and was told that it was a two mile chase. A notice at our center was posted so families were aware of the incident. My staff member said the naked man was “lean and in shape.” Hope this fellow gets the help he needs.

Anne – the officer who called me said they weren’t pressing charges but trying to get him the help he needed. I’m sorry I didn’t mention that in my earlier post.
