This is a great event for a worthy cause. The folks at Wallingford House (and other charities) might be interested in an alternative ‘charity car wash’ option used by the Ballard Boys & Girls Club. Brown Bear Car Wash offers a program to raise money and protect our waterways. It’s easy to set up and would potentially raise more cash with the same number of people. Simply put, the charity can sell car wash tickets, year-round, for a commission. Here’s the link: http://www.brownbear.com/programs/charity-car-wash/

Organizers, have you found out what you need to do to filter what goes into the storm drains? (It is not o.k to let carwash runoff go right into the storm drain.) I’m sure some Wallyhood reader knows the right agency to contact. I believe they will even deliver the filter for you.

SPU has some guidelines, but no “filter” option as far as I could find: http://www.seattle.gov/util/environmentconservation/ourwatersheds/restoreourwaters/preventpollution/carwashing/

I just heard from an inspector at the City of Seattle who said that the drains in that parking lot go to the combined sewer system and wastewater is treated, as long as there aren’t any excess spills.

My car really does need a wash, and this seems like a good program, but the only time is during work hours. Will this event be happening again during an evening?
    Thanks!
