Death on Burke-Gilman Trail

Jordan Jordan October 4, 2013 6 Comments

The Seattle Bike Blog picked up a story from the Seattle Police Department, reporting that a passerby found a woman on the Burke-Gilman trail in Wallingford dead from a gunshot wound:

At 4:30 this morning, a passerby called Seattle Police and reported a woman’s body on the Burke Gilman Trail in the 2400 Block of North Northlake Way.

Officers arrived and found a deceased woman in her twenties with a gunshot wound, and contacted homicide detectives.

Detectives are still investigating the incident, but do not believe the woman was randomly targeted.

We’ll have more information on this case as it develops.

I live very close to the crime scene. This morning when leaving to go with my son to school, I noticed a man with an ID badge knocking on the door of my neighbors’ house. He was a Seattle Police detective and was talking to all of the nearby homes to see if anyone heard anything unusual last night. We did not. My son and I both woke up around 5:30 to see the wildy bright blue strobe-y lights of 4 police cars, one right in front of our house.

The news reports conflict as to whether the body was found on the Burke-Gilman or on Northlake Way. The KOMO news photo shows Northlake Way and says the body was found on Northlake Way The P-I story shows a photo of North Pacific Street (!) and says the body was on “a lower fork” of the Burke-Gilman Trail. The Seattle Times calls the location “a stretch of trail” in the 2400 block of North Northlake Way. So it would seem by the best descriptions of the location that the body was found along Northlake, not on the actual Trail.

Wow, someone is murdered in the area and it hardly gets a peep from Wallyhood or the posters.

@Retep The article didn’t say she was murdered here. It says her body was found here. Considering the news reports say she lived in Renton it may have just been that the killer dumped her body there. Police also say they think she probably knew the killer so it does not appear to be a random killing. If you thought you live in Mayberrry RFD and not an American city I guess your illusion is shattered.

Looks like the victim was indeed found on Northlake.
