W Green Lake Way N Update and Safe Streets Wallingford

Julie Martin Julie Martin March 1, 2021 1 Comment

If you have missed the nice cutover to Ballard via Green Lake Way, you may be in luck – partially, anyway. Sometime soon, they are planning to open one-way travel southbound on W Green Lake Way [still closed as of Monday, 3/1].

An updated Traffic Control Plan is being drafted to allow one-way travel southbound on W Green Lake Way for people driving to access the Lower Woodland Park Off-Leash area parking lot as well as the Tennis Court lot. Due to the lead time in ordering materials to protect the users of the Keep Moving Street (on the northbound lake side) we anticipate the earliest we could make this change is the week of February 22.

We anticipate keeping this Keep Moving Street open longer than others, because Green Lake is a popular destination even during the fall and winter along with the challenge of reaching vaccine levels of 70 to 85% by spring. With bikes currently restricted on the inner loop inside the park, this setup helps people walk, bike, and roll into the colder seasons and spring at a safe distance.

For the broader “Safe Streets” plan in Wallingford, you can see the map below.

Was wondering about this. Thanks for the update. I wish they would just reopen W Green Lake Way as it looks like they might someday, but who am I to question the wise leaders of our city government…
