Small Business Highlight: JAS Corner Store

Susanna Susanna November 15, 2023 Comments are off

There’s a house on lower Wallingford Avenue that I’ve often admired. It was beautifully restored by JAS Design Build, whose office is across the street. JAS does excellent work restoring and rethinking old houses and I think we are fortunate to have them in the neighborhood.

I just found out that last December JAS quietly opened an adjacent corner store which is a charming extension of their impeccable aesthetic. It’s a little off the beaten path, about one block south of Union Saloon and across the street. I didn’t even realize it was there, and I’m guessing I’m not the only one.

I wandered into their cute little home store on the corner of Wallingford Avenue & North 36th Street. The building was originally built in 1913 as the Edgewater Grocery along a streetcar line that went up Wallingford Avenue. Inside they offer an eclectic and stylish array of new and old home goods, a beautiful chair, some cute side tables, stylish yet understated kitchen towels, interesting kitchen antiques… It would be the perfect spot for a unique Christmas gift or something to make your home a little more special for your holiday guests.

Instead of buying all of your gifts off Amazon this year, support this valuable local business and find something unique and special. Visit their website for more information including hours and more interesting local history. I recommend catching a brunch at Union Saloon (their brunch is one of my faves!) and then it’s a short walk to 3540 Wallingford Ave N for a little holiday shopping at the JAS Corner Store.
