Wallingford Small Business Third Thursdays are Back for 2025

lbush May 13, 2025 Leave a Comment

Support your neighborhood small businesses by joining local businesses for a Sip and Shop on the 3rd Thursday of each month from May to September. Enjoy beverages and other treats from 4 to 7 pm while you browse what Wallingford neighborhood businesses have to offer. Starting at the east end of N 45th Street off I-5, you can walk all the way to Stone Way, stopping in the participating businesses described below, browse, and talk to the business staff.

Bedrooms & More

This neighborhood institution celebrated 50 years in business in 2022!

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that we’d be nowhere without our customers. It’s the experience we’ve gained along the way from serving our community both near and far that we value most,” Bedrooms & More leadership explains on their website.

The 2018 opening of the new flagship store, brought 21,000 additional square feet to showcase even more sustainable home furnishings. Multiple levels include: two-sided mattresses, natural and organic bedding, and furniture, including bedroom, living room, dining room, and home office. In addition, there is a vast selection of customizable seating, including massage chairs, recliners, sofas, sleepers, futons, and sectionals.

Cascadia Pharmacy
The store, located in the Wallingford Center, celebrated its grand opening on June 27, 2024, and now offers a full-service pharmacy supporting the Wallingford community.

The front of the store is well stocked with a fine assortment of supplements and homeopathic lines, as well as specialty gifts, with a focus on local sourcing. Co-owners Christine Lee and Vicky Chu are both friendly, knowledgeable pharmacists dedicated to customer service, which is reflected by the other staff members.

Wallyhood covered co-owners Christina and Vicky in a 2024 review by Megan Dulgar Okabayshi.

Matt, owner of the PNW Shop

Pacific Northwest Shop
A second-generation small family business, Pacific Northwest Shop works with hundreds of suppliers to bring a variety of gifts and special items to their shelves. They have brick-and-mortar locations in the historic urban villages of Proctor in Tacoma, and Wallingford in Seattle.

PNW Shop offers a wide array of specialty foods, such as chocolate and huckleberry products; decorative items for the home; jewelry; bath and body products; books; and much more. They also offer a selection of North Coast Native American design products.

The store has prospered through the years thanks to faithful customers who appreciate the high-quality merchandise they offer. The shop recently moved next door from its original location, which allowed expansion of the well-stocked store.

 Wally Pets

Right next door to the PNW Shop, at 4411 Wallingford Avenue N, is Wally Pets, our beloved neighborhood pet store. With a wide selection of products for all types of pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and small animals, Wally Pets is a one-stop shop for all your pet care needs. From premium pet food and treats, to toys, grooming supplies, and accessories, they have everything you need to keep your furry friends happy and healthy. Their knowledgeable staff is always ready to provide expert advice and assistance, making it easy to find the perfect product for your pet. When you visit Wally Pets, you’ll see why they are a favorite destination for pet owners in Seattle.

Maison Blanc Salon
A few feet from Wally Pets is the Maison Blanc Salon. Maison Blanc offers professional hair services in a luxurious studio setting. The establishment boasts experienced hair and makeup artists, chemical- and cruelty-free products, knowledge of the latest trends and styles, and an impressive celebrity clientele. Whether you’re coming in for a simple trim or getting dolled up for a photo shoot at our professional studio, they are ready to make you look your best. You can stop in to talk to one of the Creative Artists to discuss their services.

Bottleworks and City Cellars Fine Wines

As you walk back to 45th Street and head west, you can stop in at two adjacent stores selling fine wine and other beverages. Established in 1999, Bottleworks presents a carefully curated selection of beer, wine, saké, cider, and mead. Renowned for having the Pacific Northwest’s most extensive collection of cellared beers, Bottleworks is a destination for connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts alike.

For over 35 years, City Cellars Fine Wines has been selecting and selling fine wines in the Wallingford community.

Cedarhouse Flowers (Jun – Aug) and Peti Boutique
Cedarhouse Flowers was established in 2014 and is named for the cedar-sided garage where it all started. Since the shop was opened, the culture has remained the same: they make lush, unusual arrangements with heart. AND they want to do whatever it takes to make their customers happy!

Owner, Parnel first began working with flowers while attending college in Boston. In her words, “I walked into a flower shop and never walked out.” That shop was the esteemed Winston Flowers, where she quickly fell in love with the early mornings, physical work, and creativity of the florist’s life. After that, she worked with top designers in Portland, Brooklyn, and Seattle, before opening her own studio in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood. She lives a stone’s throw from the shop with her husband Mike, kids Maceo and Nico, and their friendly shop dog, Rigo.

Cedarhouse shares space with PETI, a boutique specializing in handmade women’s fashion, jewelry, and gifts. Come by to browse lush plants, cool ceramics, and fresh blooms as they design the day’s arrangements.

Sock Monster
As you continue up 45th, you will come upon another Wallingford classic, the Sock Monster, which offers Seattle’s largest selection of fun and functional socks.

The Sock Monster evolved from the desire of founder Holly Gummelt to share her love of color and creativity in the form of socks and locally sourced artisanal goods.

The Sock Monster opened in 2010 and has since become a “must-see” shop when visiting Seattle, due to its large selection of unique, high-quality socks, including socks featuring images from Seattle artists.

In late 2019, the Sock Monster changed ownership to long-time manager Kelly Tremaine, who continues to uphold Holly’s vision of a woman-owned company supporting other woman-owned companies. The Sock Monster always strives to source its socks from factories that work hard to support fair-trade and sustainable practices.

They hope that you enjoy their thoughtfully selected inventory of high-quality socks and related items. Among their exclusive merchandise, they offer Sock Monster sock garters in a variety of colors not found elsewhere.

The Sock Monster recently updated its website in order to make their merchandise available online. Sales associates are happy to personally assist you with your sock shopping needs by phone or e-mail.

Blue Star Cafe & Pub
The final stop on the Small Business Sip and Shop event will find you turning north off of 45th onto Stone Way and walking a few steps to the Blue Star Cafe & Pub.

Back in 1975, original owner, Seattle native Leon Torrey, opened his first restaurant, Eggs Cetera in Madison Park. Soon after, he opened his second Eggs Cetera on Broadway, and eventually opened his third restaurant, The Sweetwater, in old-town Redmond. After much success and with loyal patronage, Leon purchased The Blue Star Cafe & Pub in 1997, where he combined the breakfast and lunchtime favorites from the Eggs Cetera and Sweetwater menus with classic burgers, entrees, and local beers unique to the Blue Star.

Leon’s daughter, Wendy Morales, came back to the business in 2008, after working 20 years in the corporate world. She is now the owner/operator of the Blue Star, and she believes that her love for feeding and entertaining others, and deep passion for the family business, meant coming back to it was “only a matter of time!”

If you are a Wallingford-based small business with interest in participating in Sip and Shop this summer, you can contact Matt at PNW Shop.
