Some 20 years ago, we planted about 200 daffodils along the Wallingford Avenue N margin of Wallingford Playfield. They continue to welcome spring each year. Since then, the Parks Department has pruned some of the big shrubs east of the tennis courts, liberating an area where we can plant some more flowers. So another 200 of the same daffodil variety have arrived and will be ready to plant in the new space adjacent to the original bed!
A daffodil planting party is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, October 25, starting at 10 am and going as long as it takes to get the new bulbs into the ground. If it is raining with intermittent showers, we’ll still try to get the work done. If it is coming down gully washers, we’ll have the good sense to reschedule. Some of the folks who participated in the last planting party, both adults and then children, are still in the neighborhood, and can be expected to return this year to help. But new-to-the-neighborhood folks are especially encouraged to join in the effort. Bring a hand spade if you have one, and another to share. We’ll provide the bulbs and a little fertilizer.

Way to go Mike! What a great idea that the whole neighborhood can enjoy. Thank you.
