Making Parody Great Again

Mike Ruby September 18, 2023 Leave a Comment

Roy Zimmerman will be in concert at the Wallingford United Methodist Church this coming Sunday evening (September 24) at 7 pm. WUMC is located at N 42nd St and Bagley Ave N. Donations at the door. Last year his concert in Wallingford was a sell out, so circle your calendar and get there early.

Roy Zimmerman is a folk singer who specializes in satirical songs. The hilarity is definitely pointed at the right so be warned if that would irritate you. Otherwise it is infectious and will have you in a giggle fit. If you’d like a taste of Roy, …

Second chance at trees

Mike Ruby August 19, 2023 Leave a Comment

Not too long ago Wallyhood ran a story about an application deadline for a lottery for free trees from the City. Well the City had a few more of the large trees than they had applications. Here is your second chance to snag a free tree from the City. You can get an  Aptos Blue coastal redwood, Jubilee Alaska yellow cedar, Urban Pinnacle bur oak, and European beech, for your yard without a waitlist. They also have Decaf Kentucky coffee tree available for your yard with a short waitlist so there is a good chance of getting one.

These trees …

Kostas Opa is Open

Mike Ruby August 16, 2023 Leave a Comment

Kostas Opa is in a “soft opening” this week for lunch. They are offering a variety of classic Greek fare as well as American comfort food. They expect to be fully open also for dinner either by this weekend or early next week.  You may recall that Kostas Opa used to be located in Fremont across from the “Waiting for the Interurban” statue. Same folks, same good food. Show them some love and check it out.

You will find them at 1924 N 45th, next door to Murphy’s at N 45th and Meridian Ave N. Take out is available, call …

Free trees for your yard

Mike Ruby July 25, 2023 Leave a Comment

Getting a tree for your yard can be expensive. But now Seattle is offering a chance at free trees for your yard or the planting strip in front of your house. Not only do you get the tree, but you also will receive training on tree planting and care, free water bags and mulch, and follow-up care reminders.

The City of Seattle is offering the trees through a lottery, closing August 7. You may ask for up to three trees per property. To apply go to the Trees for Neighborhoods website to fill out the application and then wait to …

Wallingford Emergency Prep team meeting

Mike Ruby July 14, 2023 Leave a Comment

We’re having a meeting to power up a Wallingford Emergency Preparations team. This team will help Wallingford prepare itself to withstand a major civil emergency (think long-term power outage, earthquake or sustained wildfires.) Volunteers in other Seattle neighborhoods have built a system of “Emergency Communication Hubs” to help their communities after a big event. Hubs coordinate “neighbors helping neighbors”. A Wallingford team can help keep your neighbors well and safe.

You are invited to join. We will get together to determine what you want to do to move Wallingford more toward being ready for the next major civil disaster.

Community …

Shakespeare in Wallingford Playfield Friday and Saturday

Mike Ruby July 10, 2023 Leave a Comment

Green Stage’s Backyard Bard players will be presenting two delightful Shakespeare plays this coming Friday (July 14) and Saturday (July 15) at the Wallingford Playfield (N 42nd St and Wallingford Ave N) at 7 pm. The plays are free but donations will be accepted.

These Shakespeare plays have been edited down to one hour each to make it all the more fun, especially for the younger, squirmier set. Wallingford is the place for opening night for both of these plays to be presented later at nine other neighborhood parks in Seattle. So bring your champagne and wish them well for …
