East Wallingford may lose bus service

Mike Ruby March 3, 2023 30 Comments

Metro is exploring how to revise its bus routes to better serve the new Lynnwood Light Rail station. In the process it also took a look at a bus serving both the Northgate and University District stations and is proposing to eliminate the service through Wallingford. The map shows a dotted line, which is the #20 bus line that is to be eliminated. You can provide Metro with comments on their website through March 10.  The page only talks about Lynnwood but this is where you can comment on the #20.

For many years the #26 Express ran down …

Is Wallingford a “15 minute city”?

Mike Ruby February 26, 2023 39 Comments

Some years ago a candidate for the Mayor of Paris, France proposed she would make sure Paris was a “15 minute city” with access to the essential commercial and public facilities within a 15 minute walk of each resident. That idea has caught on with urban density advocates and is part of the motivation for proposed upzones in Seattle. Recently a UW graduate student, Nat Henry, asked himself if he could map Seattle to see where it is already a “15 minute city” and where it lacks facilities. His maps are interactive, that is you can select what you consider …

Closure of one block on Stone Way coming soon

Mike Ruby January 27, 2023 2 Comments

Wallyhood recently reported on a presentation to the Wallingford Community Council regarding the deep tunnel boring in south Wallingford, along the waterfront. Back in the day when Wallingford was first developed it seemed like a very good idea to combine the residential waste water and rain water so the wastes would be diluted …

Mike Ruby November 21, 2022 Comments are off

Giving Tuesday is an annual celebration of our non-profit service organizations and a time to encourage you to donate to support them. It is said that non-profits receive 80% of their annual contributions between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so now is the time when they desperately need you to join in and get them set up for another year of action. Giving Tuesday is a great day to spend a few minutes getting your annual giving done.

Eight organizations active in Wallingford are participating in Giving Tuesday. If you would like to help any of these we’ve listed below, you …

University House Wallingford to Host Tour of Courtyard Garden

Mike Ruby November 6, 2022 Comments are off

It has been 25 years since University House Wallingford was built on Stone Way N, just south of N 45th (4400 Stone Way N).  It is an independent and assisted living facility where seniors have apartments and can take their meals in a dining hall. It is a part of the ERA Living chain and is associated with the UW Retirement Association. It has been a real asset to the community, hosting events open to the public in a large assembly hall.  Hidden from public view but adjacent to the dining hall in a courtyard mostly surrounded by the …
