Tilth Alliance is a non-profit organization working within our community to build a more sustainable food system. Wallingford is lucky to be the home of Tilth’s original learning garden at the Good Shepherd Center.

In collaboration with Seattle Public Utilities, Tilth is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Master Composter/Sustainability Stewardship training program. This program offers a deep dive into composting, soil health, stormwater management, and conservation. There is a mix of online and in-person training and volunteer work beginning in March. Enrollment is free and only offered to Seattle residents. If you’re interested, make sure you apply by February 20th.

Tilth also offers individual classes on a variety of gardening topics. If you’re planning for a long vegetable-growing season this year, this is a great place to start. And if you’re simply looking for gardening advice, Tilth’s Program Director, Laura Matter, helps manage Tilth’s Garden Hotline, a free service for residents to call or email with gardening questions.

Tilth Alliance is a cornerstone of our community, helping gardeners improve the food they grow while reducing waste, protecting soil health, and conserving water.
