The Fourth of July is a big day here in Wallingford, as the center of the city shifts to our streets due to the celebration in Gas Works Park, including fireworks set off in the skies above Lake Union. This one promises to be historic—the USA’s 250th birthday!
The influx of visitors to Wallingford always causes traffic jams and parking challenges, so the best strategy is to not drive that day and just walk down to get a great view of the festivities, passing by street parties, lemonade stands, and the annual Constitutional Quiz (see below for details)!
Seafair 4th of July at Gas Works Park
*New this year*: tickets are REQUIRED to enter Gas Works Park on the 4th! You can get them for free, but you have to sign up in advance.
The celebration at Gas Works, sponsored by Amazon, starts in the afternoon with activities, musical performances, and food stalls, and culminates in a fireworks display when the sky gets dark enough—slated for 10:20 pm. Activities include “All-American Games” like a pie-eating contest, sack races, water balloon toss, tug of war, and hula hoops.
Here is the schedule of events:

Neighborhood Constitutional Quiz

The Constitutional Quiz, as heard on NPR, is back for its 24th year! Answer a question about the Constitution and for 10 American cents win an ice-cold American beer. This year, the quiz will once again be held at 3428 Woodlawn Avenue N, across the street from the Transfer Station. Stop by and test your constitutional acumen which, ironically enough, has very little to do with the Fourth of July and the birthday of our nation.
