Summer is officially in full swing in Wallingford. With July 4th festivities and the parade behind us, there’s no better time to skip the traffic snarls and slow down while soaking up a little more PNW warm evening energy right here in our neighborhood. Head out for the Wallingford Sip and Stroll this Thursday, July 16th, from 4 to 7 pm. All ages are welcome, and there’s no purchase necessary—just come out, explore, and enjoy the vibes.
Matt Evans of Pacific Northwest Shop (4411 Wallingford Avenue N) organizes the event. “As always,” he said, “we’ll be serving up samples on the sidewalk with balloons swaying in the breeze and tunes playing in the background.”
This month, Evans has recruited Assistance League of Seattle to join in. Located at 1415 N 45th Street, Assistance League is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit that has been a fixture in the neighborhood since 1962. Its thrift shop sells gently used clothing, housewares, and more, with every purchase and donation supporting programs that remove barriers to education for local students—including school clothing for kids in need, financial aid for community college and technical school students, and summer enrichment scholarships. Wallyhood recently profiled some of AL Seattle’s work. I confirmed with Bev Kelleher, Thrift Store Manager, that the shop will expand its normal hours (which are 12–4 pm Thursday and Friday and 10–4 pm Saturday), staying open until 7 pm for the third Thursday—and the shop is also having a special one-night sale.
