Seattle Paddle Club Now Open on Portage Bay

Wallyhood received the following information from Benjamin Oaksmith, founder of Seattle Paddle Club:

The historic Jensen Motor Boat Company on Portage Bay, the century-old boatyard where the Slo-Mo-Shun hydroplanes were built, closed in 2019. This summer it’s coming back to life. I’m opening Seattle Paddle Club inside the old building on Boat Street, minutes from Wallingford: a stand-up paddleboard rental, club, and event space.

It’s a new, close-by way to get on the water—an easy paddle from our dock right over to Gas Works (or the other direction toward the Arboretum). Walk up, grab a board, all ages, no experience needed, $25 to start. A nice low-key summer outing that ends with the best skyline view in the city.

I figured Wallingford might also appreciate the backstory: instead of the old boat shop becoming condos, the building’s being saved and reopened to the public. I’m a boat guy who runs a yacht brokerage on the bay, and being part of bringing it back has been a labor of love.

Sounds like a fun way to get out on Lake Union! Check them out:
