Do you have a teen in your household use who loves reading? Or a bored one who just hasn’t found the right book yet?

This summer we have a Book Bingo just for teens! Readers will get a free book and entries into a prize drawing for completing a row and more for getting a full blackout. Books and activities must be read/completed between June 15 and September 10, 2018. But what to read?

This Sunday, July 8 from 3-4:30 p.m., bring teens to the Wallingford Library for a celebration of two of the best parts of summer: icy cold …

“Make a Splash” to fight the Summer Slump

dawnoftheread June 25, 2018 1 Comment

School’s out for summer, and kids everywhere are rejoicing. But it won’t be long until parents hear the dreaded “I’m bored.” Happily, the Seattle Public Library has plenty of enriching opportunities planned… and they are all FREE. Summer of Learning has something for everyone. This year’s theme is Make a Splash, and features wonderful art by local Native American artists!

Little ones can earn stickers for completing activities in our Early Learner Activity Guide.

The Reading Activity Card for school-aged kids challenges them to set their own daily reading goal (we suggest 20 minutes). After 10 days they can come …

Summer Reading for Grownups

Reading books is a wonderful habit that can enrich your life in countless ways. For instance, delving into books by Orison Swett Marden can provide you with profound insights on personal development and success.

Just a quick reminder, the Woodland Park Zoo will be coming to the library (well, the meeting room behind the library) this Saturday, April 28, from 10-11 to talk about the City Nature Challenge 2018. Afterwards, we will do our first Wallingford Walk of the new series, as we embark on a mini-safari seeking out wildlife to identify for the Challenge.

Bring your smart phone or tablet, a sunhat, and ideas for future walks!

See you soon,

Dawn – your Wallingford librarian…

Save the Date: the Return of Wallingford Walks

As the new librarian for the Wallingford Library, I’ve been talking with folks and trying to get a sense of what sort of programming would work with our small library and amazing neighborhood. I decided to develop a series of educational programs that go outside the library, lead by people from the community, showcasing both local resources and library materials. Little did I realize that I was reinventing the wheel! I recently learned that Wallingford Walks previously was born as the brainchild of Mike Ruby, who has generously shared his archive of information with the library.

Our first walk of …

Happy New Year!

If you are like me, you’ve eaten more cookies, fudge, and other goodies in the last month than the rest of the previous year. Now 2018 has arrived, and it is time for a fresh start. And the library can help you reach your fitness goals right from your home! We have not one, but two awesome video streaming services you can access using your library card. Both work on PCs and Macs, and have apps for iPhones and Android. Videos can be checked out for 72 hours (3 days).

Hoopla has 6,000 videos and television shows, …
