Erin Leach-Kemon moved to Seattle from her one-stoplight hometown of Middleburg, Va. in fall 2008. She completed her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, she interned as a staff writer at local newspapers and magazines, as well as working as a student affairs intern/House Mom/ pub crawl organizer in Bath, England. Currently residing in Wallingford, she regularly contributes stories to her neighborhood blog, Wallyhood and works as a technical writer for Microsoft. Her interests range from European country hopping, non-fiction writing (primarily on the city’s metro buses) and the occasional dumpster dive.

Walking home from her boyfriend’s house Thursday at approximately 11pm, 24-year-old Wallingford resident Samantha had just crossed 38th St and Stone Way when she felt a tap on her shoulder. A man who had come up behind her without her noticing said, “Give me your bag.” She replied, “No” and kept walking. He tapped her on the shoulder, again asking for her belongings. She again refused, yelled loudly and punched him in the stomach. He then showed her he was carrying a gun and pointed it at her, demanded her bag, at which point she handed him her messenger bag. …

A Call to Action: The Senior Center Needs Your Support!

After 30 years, the Wallingford Senior Center was forced on Fri, Oct 30 to let go of its primary staff and to scale down its senior services to just a few remaining programs due to a continual lack of funds. A final decision on the Center’s future is scheduled to be reached just before Thanksgiving.

In an effort to raise money and to demonstrate the community’s commitment to the Center, the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and Wallingford Community Council have joined forces in forming a fundraising event:
