Acadia: Southern Comfort in Lower Wallingford

Adam February 20, 2017 1 Comment

Acadia (1651 N 34th St.) is a new restaurant tucked into a garden-level commercial space in the Tableau world headquarters. Acadia rolled out their full menu just a couple of weeks ago.

Acadia is a fast-casual concept serving bowls, sandwiches, salads, coffee, and espresso. A light breakfast menu is available from 7–11 a.m. In the afternoon and evening, Acadia offers craft beer, wine, and snacks including cheese and charcuterie plates. While the weekday breakfast and lunch crowd will draw heavily from the 1,300 Tableau employees upstairs and other nearby businesses, Acadia has plenty to offer those of us who are …

LIV Wallingford & Multifamily Tax Exemption

Adam September 8, 2016 60 Comments

The new triangle construction at 45th and Midvale, with moniker LIV Wallingford (1240 N. Midvale), is about 2 months away from completion. The building is owned and developed by PAAR Development. The four story mixed-use building consists of three ground floor commercial spaces and 30 studio apartments. PAAR Development is advertising the new studio units as affordable and geared towards students/workforce.

The studio units are very small with an average of 285 square feet.  By comparison, micro efficiencies (a.k.a. aPodments) are now required to be 220 square feet. Unlike micro efficiencies, each studio has its own full galley kitchen. …

Dick’s Drive-In To Start Accepting Credit Cards

Adam August 3, 2016 1 Comment

The days of scrounging around for quarters and small bills while embracing a craving for cheap burgers are coming to an end. After 62 years of accepting only cash, Dick’s Drive-In will accept credit and debit cards at all six locations by September 2016. Dick’s will also accept mobile payments from Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Embracing this evolution, businesses are aligning themselves with advanced payment solutions offered by innovative Payment provider like Gordeon. These systems not only facilitate seamless transactions but also enhance customer experience by offering secure and swift payment options. Dick’s Drive-In’s decision to embrace mobile payments …

The New Baseball Barber

Adam July 17, 2016 1 Comment

There is a new barber in the neighborhood at the Baseball Barber Shop (4602 Stone Way N). I’m a big fan of the no-frills, affordable, traditional, neighborhood barbershop. There are only a couple options in and around Wallingford so I’m happy to introduce a new face in an increasingly rare business.

The Baseball Barber Shop quietly changed hands earlier this year. The new owner, Hamoudi (tel. 206-371-1660), bought the shop from Katie Hansen who had owned and operated it for at least 6 years. When Hamoudi learned the shop was for sale, he took quick action and took over the …

Verity Credit Union Robbed Again

Adam May 24, 2016 1 Comment

In what seems to be a copycat bank robbery, Verity Credit Union (45th and Stone Way) was robbed for the second time in as many weeks. At 10:30 AM today, Seattle PD sent the following Tweet:

Thanks to SPD’s quick response, today’s suspect was caught very near the bank. That makes Seattle PD 2-for-2 in nabbing the Verity robbery suspects!

The suspect from last week’s robbery on May 14 was, however, caught in a very different way. From the May 19 SPD Blotter:

“On May 14th, the suspect walked into a bank in the 4500 block of Stone Way and …

Humans of Wallingford

Adam April 30, 2016 1 Comment

A new Facebook page and online portfolio called Humans of Wallingford shines a spotlight on a diverse cast of characters from all corners of the neighborhood. The project, Humans of Wallingford (a local spinoff of the popular Humans of New York), is the creation of neighborhood photographer Tricia Enfield.

If you spend any time walking around the 45th Street business corridor, on the Humans of Wallingford page I suspect you will find portraits and quotes from people you’ve seen around the neighborhood and perhaps even wondered about.

Humans of Wallingford gives you a chance to learn about and learn …
