Money For Your Night Out

Jordan June 13, 2017 Comments are off

Seattle Night Out, the city-wide block party, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 this year: streets all over Wallingford (and beyond!) will be blocked off and turned into sprawling cook-outs, parks and playgrounds.

So, maybe in years past, your street has put together a potluck, enjoyed each other’s company and had a decent time. Kids were rolling back and forth in their Big Wheels, throwing marshmallows and generally getting heady drunk on staying out late.

But this year, maybe you want to step up your game. You want to have a band. You want to have hacky-sack tournament. You want …

Jordan September 22, 2014 43 Comments

Keep an eye on your cats and chickens, coyotes are afoot in Wallingford!

On the Wallyhood Forums, Rob Cranfill says:

A buddy of mine, who’s an outdoorsy, level-headed kind of guy, said he just saw a coyote running down the street in Tangletown – around 7PM.

My wife & I and two of our neighbors saw two of them last night. One was running down the sidewalk on 57th and the other rounded the corner at 57th and Kensington.

And Penelope emailed to say she had seen them, as well.

Apparently, urban coyotes are not an uncommon occurrence. …

Charmingly Weird Henry IV

Jordan July 15, 2014 1 Comment

(This review of the The Flower of England’s Face, now showing at the UW Penthouse Theatre, was written by Seth Halleran of the UW News Lab)

He cranes his arm back then flicks it forward, launching his whip, snapping through the air near inches from his foe.

The Earl of Douglas, leader of the Scottish rebels, pulls his whip back again, this time using it to snatch King Henry IV’s wooden sword from the ground at his feet.

Though he lacks a kilt, the Earl instead wears a tartan patterned sash and headband, wielding a long wooden pole in …

Murphy’s Saved, Pelican Reborn?

Jordan November 5, 2013 50 Comments

So you know that the Rusty Pelican closed a few weeks back, and that at the same time, we noted that building that housed it, along with Murphy’s Irish Pub, the rug shop on the other side (and, it turns out, the north half of the block including Cutz Salon and the house next door) were for sale, with development plans listed (see RIP Rusty Pelican).

Well, put your fears to rest: we caught up with Costas Antonopoulos, the property owner to get story and it does not sound like he’s anywhere close to selling at the moment.

Yes, the …

Jordan April 5, 2013 7 Comments

Linda Mitchell, the Community Outreach Director for the Stone 34 construction project at…wait for it…Stone Way and 34th, sent an update yesterday on the project.
