Kinder Night at B.F. Day/Ice Cream Social At Hamilton

Kimberly June 4, 2013 Comments are off

If your little one will be starting kindergarten at B.F. Day this fall, head on over to campus this Wednesday, June 5th, for their annual Kinder Get-together from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Next year’s kindergarten teachers, the principal, and of course scores of small children will be on hand to help your little one get used to the idea of elementary school. My own daughter will be a kindergartener there next year, and we are looking forward to meeting her classmates!

B.F. Day is located at 3921 Linden Avenue N.

Also on Wednesday night, fifth graders headed to Hamilton International Middle School …

Firefly Summer Math Review

Kimberly May 20, 2013 Comments are off

Has your child ever experienced the summer slide – wherein all previously learned subject matter slides right out of their head once summer begins? Firefly Tutoring has designed a summer math review course to help students entering 4th through 7th grades avoid that slippery slope of forgetfulness. Summer math reviewers  will meet twice a week from June 24-August 22, covering a year of math curriculum in one summer course. According to their website:

At each class, we will cover one topic from the Common Core and then provide ample time for students to work at their own pace on material …

Wallyreader and super soccer mom Jessica wrote to let us know that it’s time to think about Fall sports! If you would like your little one to strap on some shin guards and burn some energy on the soccer field, and if you live within the Woodland Club boundaries (3rd NW to I-5, and from the ship canal to N and NW 85th Street), now is the time to register for Fall soccer. May Day Revelry – Greet the Dawn with Morris Dancing!

Kimberly April 30, 2013 Comments are off

Each May Day, while most Wallingfordians are peacefully abed, dozens of hardy souls awake in the pre-dawn darkness, festoon themselves with ribbons and bells, and assemble at Gasworks Park. They are greeted by fellow revelers who likewise make their way to Gasworks Park bedecked in capes, flowers and layers of warm clothing. Together dancers, musicians and merrymakers herald the coming of summer with a celebration of May Day.

The organizers of this celebration are Morris dancers – the modern practitioners of an olde English folk dance tradition. I am one of them. For the 18th consecutive year, I will join …

The Solar-ist Block in Wallingford

Kimberly April 20, 2013 3 Comments

I’ll bet you’ve caught yourself wondering, “Just which block in Wallingford contains greatest concentration of solar panels?” Well, wonder no more: It’s my block, the 3800 of Bagley.

What do we do with all of that solar love? Well, since it’s Earth Day and since we love the Earth and our neighbors, we are hosting an open house! That’s right, you are invited to gawk at our fabulous solar panels, ask us your questions (even the ones that involve dollar amounts) and learn more about putting solar on your house – this Sunday from 2-4 pm.
