Wallyhood is looking for a new editor!

Kim March 18, 2017 2 Comments

Dear Wallyhood readers,

It has been an honor to serve my rotating post as editor-of-the-week since last April when Wallyhood was officially “re-launched” to operate as a shared editorial effort among myself, Jordan, Katy, Ben, and Jack. After starting the blog and dedicating over seven years to keeping it running, Jordan reached out to his readers for support and the community responded by helping to come up with a more sustainable model.

Today, we are a solid team of 5 editors who meet monthly to talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood and ensure that the content of many talented …

Wallingford and Ballard Win the Seattle Think Green Challenge

Kim December 27, 2016 1 Comment

The Seattle Think Green Challenge organized by Waste Management partnered with neighborhood organizations to challenge 3 Seattle regions to reduce waste and recycle more.

Seattle residents serviced by Waste Management for recycling, composting and garbage competed to win through either waste reduction activities or community education and involvement.

Led by the Wallingford Community Council and Sustainable Ballard led Goodwill, the Northwest region hosted the most activities during the challenge and secured a grant …

Many Hands Make Unity Work

Kim November 21, 2016 2 Comments

I joined my neighbors on Saturday at Hands Around Green Lake, “a peaceful gathering to honor our community, our resilience as a nation, and the values we stand for: unity, freedom, equality, justice, kindness, love, resilience, compassion, and community.”

The event was inspired by a similar event held at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA. While it looks like our California neighbors enjoyed some sun on their day, consistent drizzle and a chill in the air didn’t stop a reported 2700+ folks from showing up at Green Lake on Saturday. An Alarming Response to Neighborhood Disruption

Kim November 5, 2016 89 Comments

The cop let us know that the owner of the vehicle lived nearby and he was on his way to speak with him. He also mentioned that leaving threatening notes on the vehicle was ill-advised. Noted.
So when the alarm sounded again that …
