Changes Coming to Gas Works Park

At its January meeting, the Wallingford Community Council heard from both the City and Friends of Gas Works Park. This year will see significant activity in two areas: Kite Hill and the playground.

David Graves, the Senior City Planner for Gas Works reported the following.

Gas Works Park Play Area renovation – The 2008 Parks and Greenspace levy included money to make improvements to the existing play area at Gas Works Park. Gas Works Park: Cleanup & Development

The Wallingford Community Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 8th at 7:00 PM in the Good Shepherd Center. Our meeting this month will be held at the Wallingford Community Senior Center in the basement of GSC, rather than our usual room on the second floor.

The focus of this month’s meeting will be upcoming changes to Gas Works Park. Transfer Station Updates – WCC Meeting

Two years ago, the Wallingford Community Council and Seattle Public Utilities conducted months of negotiations regarding the rebuild of the North Transfer Station in our neighborhood. As a result, SPU and WCC entered into a detailed contract governing a wide range of issues concerning the construction and operation of the new facility. In an unprecedented process, the contract was not only signed by SPU, but was specifically approved by the City Council.

Wallingford CVS Project Takes A Tumble

The CVS project proposed for 45th and Meridian took an unusual turn at the Design Review Board meeting on the 4th of November. An update was presented to the Wallingford Community Council at its meeting last week. Here is what we know at this time:

The original design for the project presented by CVS to the Design Review Board called for the destruction of the building which includes the Moon Temple and the closed Tully’s Coffee store. The Wallingford Community Council will meet Wednesday, October 2, 7:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Center. On the agenda for discussion will be an upcoming  candidates forum for Mayor and Council positions, Waste Management’s new neighborhood challenge and grant awards for recycling, long term plans for sewer overflow control into Lake Union, and updates on the proposed CVS and Avtech projects and other current land use issues.
